Yoga popped straight up to my mind. According to www.iyogalife.com website, yoga is the perfect way to reduce stress, tone up, slim down, manage your emotions, and feel the way you were meant to feel, with your body and mind in perfect balance.
Bearing that in mind, I went for a beginner’s yoga class at my gym one day and I was hooked!
After a long day at work, doing gentle yoga poses help me to relax and revitalise my spirit at the same time. My poses may not be perfect now but as any sports person would tell you, it is all about practice.
And the more you do, the better you will get. Not only does my body feels better, it works wonder for my mental state of mind too! Yoga makes a good easy workout for any busy bee or ‘lesser motivated’ individuals like myself.
Yoga: a flexible exercise
Yoga is for everyone so long as you can move your body and limbs. There is no special equipment needed to start a practice and you can tailor a practice to suit your needs (a good instructor will be able to do that).
What is important is to listen to your body and know what you can and cannot do. Do not be over ambitious. Do not ‘compete’ with others. It is your body and only you will know how much you can handle. Start with baby steps and work on expanding on your practice gradually.

Yoga has been known to help reduce stress levels both in the mind and body through extensive breathing and stretching exercises. A consistent practice over a long period is also conducive to helping our body’s self-healing system to kick in, thereby eradicating minor ailments and symptoms.
In some hospitals in India, yoga is prescribed as part of their treatment therapy for patients with heart conditions and due for surgery. It was reported that the conditions would have improved over time till such an extent that some may not even need the planned surgery.
Special Benefits for Mothers
Yoga helps keep one’s energy level up while maintaining calmness and clarity of mind. This especially benefits mothers who have to deal with active children daily. They are able to better control their temperaments and deal with the vast attention required from a mother, with much lesser stress.
To sum it up, I discovered that Yoga:
If, like me, you’re planning to get fit again after many years of resting from your sport, you may as well start with yoga. As for me, I’m already a convert.
