Women love it. Men will have nothing to do with it.
‘It’ is the brazilian wax, and in an unkind twist, this is where men should take note:
it actually enhances sex for men too.
As far back as ancient Greece, women and men have always sought to remove body hair. The Greeks saw hair removal as part of being civilised, and prized the smoothness of one’s body as the essence of being human.
Why does it cost more to wax a man? We’re not giving out any prizes for the right answer.
The Brazilian wax on the other hand, has only gained popularity among women in recent decades. Do note that this does not refer to the application of wax to make something look shiny. The Brazilian wax actually refers to the removal of bodily hair around the bikini area. It was first popularised by Brazilian women - along with the invention of the 2-piece swimsuit.
Today, as in the ancient ages, while body hair is still free (sadly for women, and happily for men), the price of waxing can differ quite a bit, depending on the type of wax used and which body part is targeted.
“No way”, men may be thinking, “I’m absolutely not getting my boys waxed. Some parts are off-limits!”
Waxing is one of the many ways to temporarily remove hair on any part of the body. As with most forms of hair removal; waxing is of course, as often been portrayed by the media, painful to a certain degree. After all, any form of hair removal, regardless of the method used, is painful. So expect some pain in varying degrees to accompany you during waxing, and for some time after.
“3,2,1, peel off!”
That’s all very well and if we dare say so, a bit clinical. As Edwin reports, first of all, yes it hurts. A lot. If you’ve never had a normal wax, the effect is much like a rocket taking off – only you’re making the sounds, and there are no spectacular clouds of flame and fire and lots of men in Mission Control celebrating – although it feels like there should be.
Houston, we have ignition!
Now take a Brazilian wax. “This is what truly separates men from boys.”
Waxing is widely known for hygiene reasons as it also contributes to the prevention of certain skin problems. Body hair traps a substantial amount of sweat and bacteria. The removal of hair hence actually allows the skin to breathe better and reduces the chances of fungus growth, especially in a tropical humid country such as Singapore. Waxing also has other benefits:
Who should avoid waxing?
Those who are on a course of Roaccutance, Accutane, Retin A, AHA, Glycolic Acid or Vitamin B should not undergo waxing. These medications thin the skin, causing the risk of burning from the warm wax or tearing of skin. Consultation will also be given to ensure that the customer is well-informed before undergoing any treatment.
And finally, the question everyone wants to ask: can waxing lead to more pleasurable sex?
Definitely better sex. Waxed skin, especially a Brazilian or a Boyzilian heightens the sensation of sex as it enables closer contact with the skin and nerves and makes sex a more euphoric experience. Furthermore, the touch of smooth waxed skin is also a pleasurable experience. Waxing of other body parts are usually more for aesthetic reasons.
Take the plunge
The initial experience of getting a Brazilian or Boyzilian may be daunting but after the first session, the subsequent sessions will be much less painful as the hair will be finer and sometimes, regrowth of hair may even be absent.
So it isn’t only women who can benefit from the removal of hair but men as well. Take the plunge; your body does not deserve an Amazon rainforest. And you’ll earn bragging rights to boot.
